Giving warmth and raising awareness through charitable knitting.

Awareness, Respect, Compassion

ARC sends knitted and crocheted items to abused, abandoned, and neglected animals at The Washington Animal Rescue League. While in recovery at the shelter or its medical center, animals feel confused, vulnerable, and alone. Some have been beaten; many are terrified. Most all are grateful for the smallest kindness from humans. That they privilege us with their companionship despite past mistreatment from humans reveals the extent of their capacity to love. They deserve the consolation that a snuggly bed or blanket can bring, and toys as a reprieve from boredom. ARC sends knits to comfort our animal friends while they wait for a new home and a loving family.

The Washington Animal Rescue League

The first animal shelter to open in Washington, DC, WARL gives respite and needed care to abused and abandoned animals. WARL also rehabilitates mistreated animals to prepare them for placement in a loving home. Their medical center offers veterinary treatment to shelter animals and pets of low-income owners. The Washington Animal Rescue League was honored at the 2005 Council of Government awards for their extraordinary efforts to save thousands of animals’ lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

ARC is proud to help support the humane efforts of WARL.

Knitted and crocheted beds help dogs to feel warm and safe. As with people, security is essential for animals recovering from abuse.**
